Planes, trains and automobiles.

I spend a lot of time on the train (6 hours a week, minimum). I love the hustle and the bustle, the people and towns flashing by. I've also gotten really good at doing all the things I need to do on a train. Eat sushi, write, do my nails, I've even given myself facials on a train.

Perfect train outfit.

The key is to layer, because the temperatures are extreme and change in a heartbeat. Wear black if you're going to be eating, and relax. There will be bad smells, annoying people and long waits. But soon enough you'll get to the next station and then, everything and anything can change.

  1. I spend a lot of time on trains, too, and I've finally gotten fed up with the annoying cell phone conversationalists, specifically. Those business men who talk as if they're alone in their office, those inane college girls who drop five 'likes' in each sentence, twerpy high school kids - all loud and obnoxious. It's caused me enough unnecessary headaches that I've invested in a cell phone jammer (~$30) that, while somewhat illegal, gives me piece of mind and another form of entertainment on an otherwise boring trip.

  2. Oooh, that's pretty smart. But as someone who sometimes has to answer calls on the train (I promise I try to be quiet), I put in my earplugs, slip on the eyemask and snooze my way to Zen when the going gets loud.
