RIP Jane Russell

Was very saddened to hear of the passing of Jane Russell, one of Hollywood's original and best bombshells. She was from an era where people didn't go to the movies to see reality played back at them, but rather otherwordly fantasies. And she was out of this world: her measurements put most buxom babes to shame. She starred in classic after classic, including a film that premiered underwater, with a scuba gear-clad audience.

After overcoming infertility (she adopted three kids and founded an organization to help place kids with families), alcoholism and the death of two husbands she said, "these days I am a teetotal, mean-spirited, right-wing, narrow-minded, conservative Christian bigot, but not a racist."

Rest in peace, Jane.

  1. like everyone else, i will miss her. the film i most enjoyed her in was a Howard Hughes/Republic Pictures production called "The French Line". unfortunately, this clip has been 'colorized', but i like it nonetheless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cl-r2mHPf4

  2. She seems honest and I think I need to look her up. I'm pretty sure I know her.

  3. So sad to see such a great actress leave this world... I've always said that Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe didn't hold a CANDLE to Ms. Russell.... I will go to my own grave thinking (and knowing) that exact same thing.. R*I*P* Jayne...
