Happy weekend!

Happy long weekend! Long weekend after an even longer week. Or was that just me? This week has been even more hectic than I expected, and it seems I'm not alone, judging by a barrage of cranky Facebook statuses.

It's also breaking my heart a little to leave without getting to spend any real time with The Boy, especially on a long weekend. We are really good at long weekends. Oh, and I'm definitely not exaggerating or being overly dramatic or anything. Definitely not.

Of course, travel and work are always good, so I'm just keeping my head above water until the trip.

And, for those that won't be on a plane or in front of a camera in their underwear (my life is weird) for Memorial Day, I've scrounged up some delightful cocktail recipes that are just begging to be drunk on a porch on a humid sprummer (spring/summer. I am so goddamn clever) evening.

This is a fruitier version of Brazil's national drink the Caipirinha. Got to love a country with a national drink.  It is traditionally made with cachaça, which is sugar cane rum but I'm sure it would be delicious with rum or even bourbon

Caipirinha de Uva

  • 2 oz Leblon Cachaça*
  • 1 oz semi sweet white wine
  • 1-2 limes, cut into rough chunks
  • 5 red grapes
  • 2 tsp raw brown sugar
Muddle sugar, grapes and limes in a large tumbler. Add Leblon Cachaça, wine and cracked ice. Stir well and fill remaining glass with cracked ice. Garnish with 2 grapes.

You can substitute any fruit in place of the grapes, and the Leblon has one particularly delicious suggestion: nectarine, and then a little honey instead of brown sugar. Would it be embarrassing if I mixed this cocktail alone in my hotel room in Germany? Yes? Whatever.

VOGAtini
Weird sparkly pom poms not included
  • 2 oz VOGA Pinot Grigio
  • 1 oz. Pomegranate Juice,
  • 1 shot of vodka
  • Garnish with  fresh berries
I like this as an alternative to the cosmopolitan which, to be perfectly honest, I don't actually like very much. I know, Carrie Bradshaw's going to come kill me with a stiletto or shun me from the tribe of fashionable women but...they're overrated. And I think with a bit of champagne this would be even better. But I think champagne makes everything better, so take that with a grain of salt.

Speaking of champagne making everything better, I have so stinking much to say about Switzerland and I just don't seem to have the focus or time to get it all down. I've also been thinking about what I want to do with this blog and how I want to organize it/what direction I want to take it and I just don't know.

What I do know is that this video means Alec Baldwin and I have to break up. I just can't be with a Yankees fan. No word yet on RDJ Jr's preference but I'm crossing my fingers.

Red Sox or die, Downey.

  1. As it turns out, I will be spending Memorial Day in front of a camera in my underwear.
