Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

I love these shoes.
Rochas Lizard Mule

I love these shoes so friggin much.

I know I say I love a lot of shoes but I really think these might be My Perfect Shoes. Just like I say I love every dog I see but I know somewhere out there is My Perfect Dog. Unless I blew all my dog karma with my first dog, Shucks, who used to come hang out with me when I had detention and with whom I was in a talent show that also featured Kurt Vonnegut. We're getting off topic.

I just love these shoes.

Hamburg Holiday

I spent Thanksgiving in Hamburg, Germany, and while I was working for most of the time, I did get to enjoy their Christmas Fair, which is a uniquely European phenomenon that I totally adore.

Every year, from November to January many towns in Europe have a Christmas fair in the evenings with hot mulled wine, local food and local artists' wares.

In the case of Hamburg, their culinary specialties are fried seafood, sausage, apple pastries and an invention so genius that it makes me almost totally forget about the whole Holocaust thing.
You're ok, Deutschland.
That's right. Waffles on a stick. Delicious, cakey, German waffles covered in Nutella on a stick so you can walk around and find the next thing you'd like to put in your mouth before you're even done. Pure genius, I tell you.

I wish we'd import these fairs and their be-sticked wonders in America, but they'd probably charge $12 for a mug of hot wine, so perhaps it's for the best.

I love how sparkly and cozy these fairs feel, and how they celebrate what makes each town unique. So, in that vein, I'm compiled a list of things that I feel exemplify that spirit that would give any celebration a shiny, quirky feeling.
calendar, heels, clock, paperweights, boots, tart servers, earrings, camera
Not included: mulled wine. Have a happy holiday everyone!

Shoes, shoes, shoes

I love these shoes.
DVF Flama Polka Dot Sandals
I love these shoes so fucking much.
Available on Gilt

I love these shoes so much I want to rub them all over my body in a public place until an old lady gets annoyed and clears her throat really loudly.
And not in my size.
More importantly, I love them so much I'm going to go buy some cheap mules and wrap a scarf around them because I am a crafty copycat.

Weekend Projects

Made some shoes a few weekends ago and never got around to posting about them.

Before:

Cuteish, but I never wore them and I just wasn't feeling it anymore. So, here's the after:

Step 1: Clean shoes
Step 2: Tape over any parts of the shoe you don't want painted
Step 3: Spray paint heel, preferably a groovy metallic colour.
Step 4: Hotglue fake roses to shoes.
Step 5: Wear.

Have a great week!

Shoes, shoes & doing good

I love this organization.

I love its name: Soles for Souls.

And I love my beautiful friend, Kim, who has been doing amazing work for them in LA. So you should follow her on Twitter, ask her how you can help and do what you can.

Shoes, shoes, shoes.

I hate these shoes.
Prada "Flatform" Laceups
I hate these shoes so fucking much.

I hate these shoes so fucking much I want to poke anyone who wears them with a cattleprod and yell, "you wanted running shoes? Then you better run, bitch!"

Not that I'm being overdramatic or anything.

P.S. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I have a nasty bout of bronchitis, which, to be honest, I'm just glad isn't pneumonia.

I love this shoe so much.

Rhymes with Blalentine's Blay

Rhymes With Blalentine's Blay
in which the author unwittingly celebrates the weirdest holiday of the year
The Boy and I accidentally had a really romantic Valentine's day weekend. We didn't mean to. But I got a fondue kit on sale at a bookstore (isn't that where everyone gets their fondue kits?). Did you know that chocolate fondue is romantic? Because I didn't.

And then the London Hotel offered me afternoon tea for two (which I highly recommend, by the way).

And then we decided to try the Champagne Bar at the Plaza.

So, just to recap: chocolate fondue, tea for two, champagne cocktails.

Then, suddenly, it was that day that rhymes with Blalentine's Blay, when everyone is being pressured to tell people that they love each other because some Saint was bludgeoned to death 600 years ago. A holiday that I think is weird and morbid and that I only put up with because it involves champagne and cupcakes.

And I celebrated the living hell out of it. I even had ribbons on my shoes. Weird. And delicious.

*let's be honest, I love it much more than the next girl

Happy Weekend!

It's the weekend, and I have tons of work to do. But it's still the weekend. So, a few friends, a little champagne, some high heels and I'll feel like a million bucks.

And for your viewing pleasure, a trippy as balls video that I think is just great.

Shoes, shoes, shoes.

If anyone knows where this picture or these shoes came from, let me know
I love these shoes. And I hate the cold. I think these babies and I need to run away someplace beachy, peachy and warm STAT.

Shoes, shoes, shoes

Valentino Shoe
I love this shoe. I love it so much I want to marry it and have little half-shoe, half-me babies.

Monday, March 30, 2009

It's Monday morning and instead of getting ready for work or doing laundry, I'm shopping for shoes online.

It works for me.

I confess, though, I was a little bit embarrassed to post this. A whole entry about shoes? I thought. That seems so trivial and girly.

There are loves of mine that I like to keep hidden: reruns of The Nanny, potato-chip sandwiches etc.

But my unabashed love of high heels is not one of them. I don't care if I'm rather tall, very clumsy and chronically tardy with bad feet. I'm not apologizing to the vertically challenged, or my podiatrist*. I will, however, apologize to the people I crash into/fall on top of/bump or knock over. But I won't change my ways. I am Erratic in Heels and I don't care. So. Here's an entry about shoes.

I went online to find a nude, patent round toe pumps. I had a very clear objective. It is now... somewhat muddied. But this is what I've come up with so far:

SANDALS

RSVP Noreen, $94

I might only be uber-attracted to these sandals because I wish it was warm outside.

TRENDY

Christin Michael's, Amera $129

Christin Michael's, Rena $119

I've refrained from investing in booties because I don't know if I'll be wearing them in five years. But I think I love those Mary Janes in a forever kind of way. It just feels right.

CLASSICS

Type Z Sireen, $80

RSVP Paris, $71

Neither of these is exactly what I'm looking for, but I think those black tipped pumps might make me happy for the rest of my life.

I'm off to do things I'm supposed to, and if anyone finds a gorgeous nude patent round toed pump, please let me know.

*I don't have a podiatrist.

Secret Love

So, call it pleasure-deprivation, but I've decided to come out and say it. I love loafers. And moccasins. And all men's style shoes.

In fact, because I have such large, large feet I wear men's shoes from time to time. My best friend from High School is very stylish and turned me on to docksiders. Very exciting new territory.

At any rate, I was browsing Tod's website and I found these.

I can see it now- I'd try them on and go back and forth between the ridiculous blue ones and the sensible brown ones. As is so rarely true, the sensible option would win as images of baggy sweaters and slouchy jeans rolled through my head. We'd have a few good years together, and it would be a beautiful love story that would end with frantic calls to local cobblers, tears, mangled glue attempts and the seven stages of grief.

P.S. Got a lovely mention on Armchair Travel. Any literary types like me would do well to peruse old entries.

Listening to now: Little Honey by Lucinda Williams. Way better than the critics say, not nearly as good as her older albums.
