Some Awesome for Your Week

This Website

It provides you with games that improve your memory, perception, and other mental skills. I am hope it to make me good with stuffs.

This Kitten Cam

via the Rachel Comey who, by the way, had an amazing collection this season. And it's for a good cause! All of these adorable little fuckers are up for adoption. Get one today and become as unnaturally obsessed with your cat as I am! This is only up temporarily, so if it doesn't work, here's another kitten cam. A backup kitten cam, if you will.
Does this look like something a crazy cat lady would wear? Because this crazy cat lady would like to.

This Woman

I've been getting preeeetty comfortable up on my high horse lately, and everything that put me there has been related to fat shaming women. See Exhibit A, Exhibit B and Exhibit C*. There is so much wrong with it- the example it sets, the message it sends, the double standard it sets for women. It's a complex issue that I've thought about a lot, and will hopefully be writing about more in depth for a prominent plus-size publication (say that 5x fast). But what it comes down to is this: everyone of size is shamed to some degree, which is counter productive in the fight against obesity. But while men are encouraged to "get healthy" by the media, women are expected to become attractive for the benefit of the male gaze. It's sizist, sexist, and stupid.

And along that vein,

It's a great place to build your own shoes if you have really specific shoe needs for, say, a wedding or something. You know. Whatever. Your mom. Burn.

*I actually included Exhibit C because the comments are really interesting and provide a lot of different perspectives and very little trolling. The article is just sort of meh.

Some Awesome to Start the Week

Here is a list of a few things I think are really super:

The Saint Laurent Collection

I was skeptical about the name change but this collection was so French to death and I love it.

This Video

Sarah Silverman is right: that is some bullshit. This election is in no way won, and we shouldn't get cocky, we should get registered and we should VOTE. Here's how to find out if you're registered and don't forget you have the option to vote early. In fact, if you're feeling super lazy/busy, email me your address and I'll print you out a form, fill out as much as I can, and send it back to you with a stamp on it, ready to mail. Seriously. Email me at erraticinheels@gmail.com.

This DIY Decorating Idea, courtesy of Apartment Therapy

Totally doing this. Any excuse to buy a bunch of rubber animals is good for me. That sounded weirder than I thought it would.

This Headdress

as recreated by this bride. I am definitely stealing her idea and trying to make my own.

Also awesome: the fact that I bought my wedding dress this week for $150, marked down from $1500. What what?!

This Luggage

by Anna Dello Russo for H&M. Must have.

This Letter

from James Dean's friend to Dean's family after his death. I cried my face off reading it. If you find yourself longing for some lighter fare, check out this disgusting and awesome letter from Mozart.

And if that isn't a random enough collection of awesome for you, here's a Disney star rapping about ketchup:

Have a great week!

I AM Auntie Mame....

Big Freaking News: The Boy's sister and her husband are expecting a child. And, since this is my blog,  which means everything is about me, that means that I can now expect to be an aunt! An aunt! Aunts are important! I've loved all of my aunts! I'm so excited I could pee*.

When discussing possible monikers, I wasn't satisfied with the typical Aunt/Auntie Sarah options. There was something lacking. Then I remembered what I've been periodically bellowing at The Boy for the past few weeks:

I. am. Auntie. Mame.

If you have not witnessed the cinematic brilliance that is Auntie Mame, stop reading this and go watch it now. I'll wait.  It's on Netflix Watch Instantly so it will be easy-peasy-don't-be-sleazy.

It may be subtle as a blow to the head and 45 minutes too long but it is also the singularly most influential film on my life and style since Roman Holiday. It was made in the 50s about the 20s, so there's bright colors, loud patterns and headwear up the wazoo. To prepare for the child-to-be**, I've put together a small list of what it takes to be Auntie Mame.
Note: I have not been sponsored by any of the following companies, nor do I own any of the following items. In other words, if you want to buy them for me, I'll be your best friend forever because I fucking love presents.

Luckily, Mame-appropriate legwear is experiencing a resurgance in the fashion world. Pajama sets, sequin pants, patterned pants, and matchy-matchy suits are all the rage. Example A: this H&M window.

Go forth and lose all sense of subtlety.

Every year, I (and several other magazines) declare hats to be the newest It accessory, as though it's breaking news that hats are amazing. So, I'm just going to adapt a pro-hats stance year round.

I don't smoke, but I do hold a fake cigarette to go with my bourbon or coffee whenever I write and now I think it may have to go in a chic as fuck holder. Also excellent for gesticulating.

All fashion related ramblings aside, though, I am so happy for the expecting parents. They are rock stars, and their kid is so lucky he chose them. They also come with a crazy big tribe of endless support and love, including this pleased as punch aunt. Now someone get me a damn glass of punch.

*And I've only had to breathe into a paper bag once. Because, you know, aunts are important. And I'm a little afraid of babies. It's the soft spot.

Revelation

I have always said that the two strongest and everlasting loves in my life are Kanye West and Fran Drescher. My love for them is undying and unfettered. I have, and probably will again, created several awkward silences defending them to roomfuls of haters. I even created a religion for her in Switzerland.

While in Boulder, my friend, who is a fucking genius, revealed to me a revelation of hers.

"Sarah," she said, "do you know why you love Kanye West so much?"
"Because," I answered, "he is awesome?"
"Yes," she replied, "but also because he is Fran Drescher."

You guys. YOU GUYS YOU GUYS YOUGUYSYOUGUYSYOUGUYS.

They really are the same person. In case you can't watch the video, below is photographic evidence.

Some Awesome for Your Week(end)

I started this entry on Monday, and it was supposed to be some awesome for your week, but then I had to go to class, and read stuff and also there was something shiny. So now you've all had a lackluster, un-awesome week and it's all my fault.

Not to worry, I've wrangled up some extra awesome to make up for it. Here goes.

Things That Are Awesome
1. The Netherlands

No matter what Fox News says. For that matter,

2. This blog. It has really opened my eyes to the problems inherent in the media's portrayal of women, minorities and non-heterosexuals. That, in turn, has led to increased fancy pantsiness and high horsiness of my blog's vocabulary.

3. This video

I had no idea I was in love with Kristen Bell until I saw it. I just want to keep her in the +7 emotional zone at all times.

4. This video
I did know that I was in love with M.I.A., but I did not know that this would be the inspiration for my personal style for the rest of my life. Or until I see something shinier.

5. This outfit

Seriously, head to toe perfection.

6. Cake

7. Boobs

8. And finally, free stuff!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway by clicking here. The cutoff time is midnight tonight, so do it now! Don't bookmark it and then think you'll get to it because you'll probably end up distracted by your Hulu queue or laundry or something. Hypothetically speaking.

Weekend Recap

It was the Boy's birthday last week, so this weekend I planned a Delightful Surprise Outing which turned out even better than I'd expected.

We hiked, while Rue guarded the house.

Then we had high tea at an adorable cafe.

The cafe had an adjacent store that made me fantasize about my someday grownup house which will have an office like this one I saw in a penthouse apartment on 5th Ave. The apartment belonged to some friends of my grandfather who were hosting his book party. It was full of real grownups, so I put my hair in a french twist, painted my nails and tried not to quote Kanye too much.
That said, I can't help it if my reaction to hearing a heartwarming story about rescuing a cat presents an excellent opportunity to pun on the Kanye classic 'Ni**as in Paris'.

Powerful attorney/real grownup: he was a rescue cat-
Me: that shit stray.
PA/RG: I'm sorry?
Me: oh, it's from Kanye and Jay Z's 'Watch the Throne'
PA/RG: I..I'm not familiar.
Me: that shit cray.

So that was that.

Some Awesome For Your Weekend

Here are a few things I think are just awesome:

These women.
I see a Lifetime Movie, action figures, epic folk songs. Oh, wait... no, I don't. Why the hell not, American media?

This painter.

Freud left an indelible imprint on the art world. He was also a big part of my pretentious artist phase in high school, but don't hold it against him- it's poor taste to speak ill of the dead.

This manicure (yes, I did just segue from a artistic genius to nails. It's my blog and I can do that if I want to).

These collections: resort.

From left to right: Jil Stuart, Jil Stuart, Caroline Herrera

Louis Vuitton

Antonio Berardi, aka the love of my fashion life.

Resort collections are my favorite. They're always classics: wearable but still whimsical. And I'm loving this French Riviera in the 30s vibe that keeps cropping up. It harkens back to a day when nudity was shocking and drunkenness was charming. That's a delightful combination.

These water bottles.

Eco-friendly, customizable and the company donates a portion of the provides to companies that provide communities in need with clean water.

This company.

Poop jokes are hilarious, dudes.

My hair:
Don't judge me, I got my hair did.

And you know what the most awesome thing in the entire world is? Better than cancer research and crime fighting, lifesaving lesbians*?

My new scooter.

Ok, maybe not more awesome. But so awesome. So fucking awesome I can't.

Hope you have a delightful weekend! Mine will be spent scooting as much as possible.
